Most visitors have a trouble-free week, but Panama City Beach’s own officials describe the 2025 season as hectic and violent and responded in 2026 with 100 additional officers, more cameras, a curfew for unaccompanied minors and a high impact period from March 28 to April 11. Safety depends on your group’s choices and on the week you pick, and nobody can promise a risk-free trip.
What officials have said
The most useful facts about safety come from Panama City Beach and Bay County themselves.
- 2025 looked back on. Police data for March 1 to April 14, 2025 cited 8,189 incidents, 1,589 citations, 693 adult arrests, 77 juvenile arrests and 61 firearms seized. The police chief called the season “hectic and violent,” largely because of underage visitors.
- Costs the city reported. Local news reported more than $400,000 in added expenses after seven shootings in 10 days.
- County totals. The Bay County Sheriff’s Office reported more than 4,700 calls, 213 arrests and 647 citations in its beach zones over the same window.
- A message to visitors. In the same news conference the chief said the city is “not an environment that is welcoming to unaccompanied youth that is here to cause trouble.” The mayor said visitors who come to enjoy the beach are welcome.

What changed for 2026
| Measure | What was reported |
|---|---|
| Staffing | 100 additional officers and more security cameras |
| High impact period | March 28 to April 11, 2026, in three zones including all of Pier Park and sections of Front Beach Road |
| Minors | Curfew from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for unaccompanied minors; minors arrested in a zone were held until an adult picked them up |
| Juvenile justice | The Department of Juvenile Justice on site to process arrested minors |
| Beach alcohol | Banned on the sand through March |
| Bars | Alcohol sales ended at 2 a.m. |
| Rentals | Only guests 21+ could book vacation rentals |
| Unofficial events | Unpermitted “takeover” parties were not allowed; the sheriff’s office tracked social posts promoting them |
None of these numbers say whether your week will be safe. They do say what the city thinks the risks are, and they match common sense: crowds of unsupervised teenagers, guns, alcohol and unpermitted parties. 2027 measures had not been published when this page was written.
What lowers your own risk
- Choose your people and your week. The 2026 high impact period started March 28. Earlier weeks had a different crowd. See Week 1 vs Week 4.
- Go to organized venues. Stick to licensed venues and events you can verify. We explain how in how to spot fake spring break events.
- Be 21 to drink, and carry valid photo ID. 18+ to enter card venues with valid photo ID, 21+ to drink with valid photo ID.
- Never go alone. Pair up, share live locations and agree on a meet-up spot.
- Watch your drink and your pace. Pace yourself, eat, and keep water in your hand between drinks.
- Plan the ride home before you go out. Do not drive after drinking.
- Respect the water. Check the flag every day before you swim. Double red means the water is closed to the public, and in 2021 the city handed out nearly $60,000 in double red flag citations. See beach flags explained.
- Keep your valuables small. Phone, ID, one card, some cash.
If you are under 18 or bringing someone who is
The chief said, “Do not send your kids down here if you’re not coming with them.” Unaccompanied minors were subject to an 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew, and minors without an adult could not be at alcohol-selling places after 10 p.m. in 2026. Our curfew page has the details and what to check for 2027.
